It does a person good to have fun and feel like a kid again every now and then. We can’t spend every day adulting, else life will become repetitive and mundane. There are some amazing playgrounds in Kentucky that can make us feel like kids again. All we have to do is have a seat and swing, or slide down a sliding board. If you have fun childhood playground memories, they will come flooding back, I promise.

Kids Place

This inside playground has a little bit of everything from bounce houses to video games. You can step back in time and play old school arcades or enjoy some air hockey and other classic favorites. It may not be outdoor playground fun, but the arcades were also a classic hang out for some of us as kids.

This is everything you’d expect an indoor playground to be. It is a great place to go with the younger siblings, nieces, nephews and children in general. There is a ton of activities, including things where the adults can interact and play too.

This park along the river has a nice playground with swings, slides and other equipment less suited for adults. However, it also offers a glorious river view and a place to launch your water toys, if you happen to have any. You can swing for a while, and then take a ride in a boat along the river. It is a nice place to swing while watching the sunset as the colors glisten off the ripples of the water. The annual Mayfest is also held at the park admission free. It will be taking place on August 20th this year, featuring some of the best Bluegrass Music you will hear.

This well maintained park in Newport has a little bit of everything from a baseball diamond to tennis courts. If you like to shoot the occasional hoop or just knock a ball around for a while, this is a perfect place to do it. This is more a spot for adults than little ones, though all ages are welcome to play.

This is a 12 acre park dedicated to fun for kids and adults. There is plenty of room to toss about a Frisbee, hit a few balls, or just relax and swing for a while. This isn’t a fancy park with millions worth of equipment, but it is just a simple, fun place to think back and feel like a kid again. It also has a fenced in dog park section, so you can bring your furry friend along too.

This family fun park has a lot of different outside equipment, but the most popular is the water portion. There are mini water cannons you can spray at one another. It can become like laser tag with water… though everything is mounted. It is a great place to cool down on a hot spring or summer day.

This is a favored park among locals and visitors because not only can you swing on the playground, but you can rent a paddle boat. During the spring and summer they have rentals available that can give you a relaxing view of the water, or make for a romantic paddle away. The ducks sometimes paddle along beside you.

This has been one of the city of Louisville’s pet project for years, thus it has everything from tennis courts to a water fountain water park. You can swing, slide, stroll along the river, shoot some hoops, play tennis, ride on a riverboat, skate, etc. etc. etc. A barrage of festivals are held here throughout the spring, summer and fall as well, including a summer Waterfront Wednesday concert series, Forecastle Fest, WorldFest, Thunder Over Louisville and the Kentucky Derby Festival Chow Wagon. There is no shortage of things to entertain you at this park, and if you get hungry, there are restaurants within walking distance.

There is a little bit of everything at Smothers when it comes to playground equipment. There are swings, slides, and all the standards, along with spinning rides, romantic swings by the river and gazebo like towers. The fountains make a nice place to cool off, and the swing by the river makes for a perfect spot to watch the sunset.

These amazing playgrounds in Kentucky are a great way to remember the carefree thoughts of youth. Something as simple as swinging for a few minutes can help us reflect on more youthful times. Perhaps of a father or mother pushing us on a swing, or playing on a slide with siblings or friends. I haven’t been to every playground in the state, so I know I’ve likely missed some great places.
