Our beautiful Bluegrass State is full of gorgeous and popular national and state parks that draw people from all over the country to bask in their majesty. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a place that’s not teeming with people. Kentucky Ridge State Forest in Kentucky is a little-known oasis that’s the perfect place to enjoy nature in solitude.
Kentucky Ridge State Forest is an area dedicated to sustainable timber production that spans 15,251 acres and was originally leased to the state for the Land Use and Resettlement Program before being deeded to the Commonwealth in 1954.
While this forest does contain some popular areas like Pine Mountain State Resort Park, the vast majority of the area is remote and secluded and a wonderful place to get away from it all, with lush forests and expansive wetlands.
There is plenty of space to hike around in and you’ll be surrounded by verdant wooded areas, birds of all kinds, and find many a trickling stream to relax by.
To truly get a sense of being alone in nature, stop and listen and hear nothing but birdsong and the breeze whispering through the branches. It brings a sense of serenity that will wash away your worries.
