Those who are not very familiar with Kentucky are often surprised to find out that our state is filled with opportunities for outdoor adventure. As many associate the Bluegrass State with rolling fields of horse farms, they don’t realize that Kentucky is also filled with mysterious rock formations, epic hiking trails, and sweeping views from towering cliff sides. And all of these adventures can actually be found in one remote town in Kentucky. Slade is one of our state’s official Trail Towns and it is also known as the “Adventure Capital of Kentucky.” Pack up your hiking shoes and adventurous spirit and visit this unique town in Kentucky.
The small town of Slade is perfectly located to be considered the "Adventure Capital of Kentucky."
It is adjacent to Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Red River Gorge and is right in the heart of Daniel Boone National Forest. There are so many recognizable natural features, hiking trails, and scenic views within walking distance of the town's center, it is no wonder it is now one of the our state's official Trail Towns.

These trails will take you through unforgettable scenery, past remarkable rock formations, and to overlooks with views for days.
The swinging bridge, shown above, is at the start of the Lakeside Trail and will make you feel like a kid again. You'll feel like a true adventurer when you hike past rock formations that have been formed over the years and seem to appear as if by magic.
If you prefer to experience adventure on two wheels, Slade has you covered there, as well.
As a Trail Town, there are also plenty of trails that cater to those who wish to explore by bicycle. There is literally no end to what you can experience in the great outdoors around the town of Slade.
