I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Almost all cemeteries can be creepy at night. However, what people sometimes forget is that they’re a peaceful place to visit our loved ones during the day. There are exceptions to every rule, and land that is designed to lay the dead to rest has exceptional exceptions. Not all those who should be resting actually rest, according to many a resident and visitor to the haunted cemeteries in Kentucky.
No disrespect to any who has ancestors or friends entombed at the following, but here are 16 haunted cemeteries in Kentucky that put the C in creepy. If you chose to visit these Kentucky cemeteries, no matter how frightened you are, please be respectful! Folks are resting here.
16. Baker Hollow Road Cemetery
Baker Hollow Road, Baker Hollow Rd, Kentucky 42064, USA
This rural Marion County cemetery has a long history of apparitions. An injured dog appears near the fork in the country road, as if begging for help, but its eyes are a dull yellow and its shadow is demonic. The spirits of soldiers battle around you and men long dead appear hanging from trees alongside the road to the graveyard. This is a very spiritually active place with a long history of sightings.
15. St. Ivos
Willis Trail Road, Willis Trl Rd, Kentucky 40033, USA
This old cemetery has been causing camera and mobile devices to malfunction since visitors started bringing them in the gates. Voices are also said to be heard when no one is around.
This place of rest in Lewis County is home to dark shadows that move around freely and carries a deep seeded feeling of depression. The church lights turn on and off and visitors often report feeling watched.

13. Campbell Cemetery
Campbell Cemetery Road, Campbell Cemetery Rd, Kentucky 41121, USA
Coffin Rock in the graveyard is said to be the sight of a murder. Now some residents swear blood runs down the rock when it rains. This cemetery is also said to be home to specters of a lost elderly woman, a girl who stands in the road, and a man who flags down cars.
Lewis County is home to this rural graveyard where a stalker of the specter type is said to follow you as you walk. Visitors often hear footsteps, followed by a feeling of dread.
This Bardstown cemetery is home to some graves so old their names crumbled away decades ago. A large black cat appears and disappears following visitors. It is said to be the spirit of a witch, hanged there in the 1800s, or a cemetery guardian.
This Adair County cemetery is home to the specter of a man in his 50s holding a child in a pink blanket. The grave of a 54 year old man and his child were discovered in 1972.
9. Cave Hill Cemetery

This massive cemetery in Louisville has graves dating back to the 18th century and was designed to provide a pleasant stroll. The spirits do agree and can be seen floating about in orbs of light, green and white. Sounds can also be heard within Cave Hill Cemetery like slabs sliding, and the grind of concrete, even from outside the back gate.
This 18th and 19th century cemetery in Campbell County often harbors floating green orbs. The broken Grandview Cemetery gates gates are made of rusty iron and brick, deemed the "gates of hell", by locals.
There is an ancient cemetery in this old mining town, around the mountain edge. The tombs are so aged by time that most have crumbled to illegibility. A fog floats around the graves each night as the air chills around anything living.
This place of rest sits a ways off a country road between Madisonville and Earlington. A blue orb is said to appear and sometimes follow people. It is rumored there is an empty grave there as well.
The graveyard on the hill above the post office has a lot of activity for a final resting place. Residents tell of being watched, of a force hitting the cars of visitors, and sounds of banging and running in the old church at night when it is empty. Things appear that shouldn’t even exist on this plane.
Hebron’s cemetery is renowned for its crematorium, which seems to always smell as if it's burning, even when it is empty. There are chills over many graves and voices can be heard. Those that understand what they say shiver involuntarily and vacate. The first grave was layed in 1786.
This place of unrest is said to be the home of several trees where accused witches were hanged. The above ground graves of a few witches are also there. These graves were created by pouring concrete directly over their downed bodies. The unhappy spirits are said to cause a chill in the air and appear as black apparitions.
Perryville was the site of a bloody battle in 1862. Though there is not an official cemetery on the battlefield, many soldiers were left to decay and become part of the earth, making it a somewhat natural burial ground. Confederate soldiers are said to wander the fields, facing the remnants of battle. Perryville was also featured on the Travel Channel’s "Ghost Adventures".
Babourville residents and visitors to this cemetery claim that something follows them as they visit loved ones, or care for graves. The creepy force doesn’t stop until have left the gates. By the way, those are not rain drops on the lens... but unexplained orbs in the graveyard.
Once again, no disrespect is meant towards any of these final resting places, nor to the souls that reside therein. These stories about haunted cemeteries in Kentucky have been passed along and have gotten attention over the years, causing many to fear entering some of these areas. Realistically, not many people find these haunted cemeteries in Kentucky comforting in the moonlight. Most of us have seen strange things at some point that cannot be explained.
