I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
It is Christmas Eve in Kentucky and many are sitting around wondering exactly what Santa might bring. We all have our wants and needs, but as a state, there are some specifics that would be great. There are a few things almost everyone would be happy with, (though Santa usually anticipates one of two might be disappointed… especially those Krampus visits.)
Here are 12 things you might hope Santa brings Kentucky:
Oh Santa, please, please end the common stereotypes associated with our great state. The mass majority of Kentuckians are not illiterate or racist, and the women do not run around barefoot and pregnant unless they want to. Education pays in Kentucky.
I know there are those of you that would love to have snow for Christmas, so this is for you. Personally, I’m happy with a green Christmas, but this list for us all. Thus, for those of you who want snow, I hope Santa brings it to your yard, so you can enjoy it.
Most Kentucky basketball fans want a rematch, particularly with Wisconsin. Mind you there are a few other games I’m sure fans wouldn’t complain about seeing a "do over". Wisconsin just takes precedence over the others, though Florida is a close second on that.
This process is hurting not only the beauty of our gorgeous state and the Appalachias, but it is also destroying the environments around removal locations. It would be great to find a less destructive way to harvest what lies beneath.
Every farmer I know has something on their list, "love to have that", be it a new tractor, bailer, rake, shovel or a specific type of seeds. These guys feed us, so I'm hoping Santa hears their pleas.
It seems like years ago there were a lot more Bluegrass music shows. Now they are few and far between, primarily during the fair unless in a small town diner. It would be great to have the music ringing down the streets in the northern part of the state again.
It would be awesome to see Kentucky’s minor league team, the Louisville Bats, actually take off and reach the majors some day. We don’t really have professional state teams to speak of here, but our college sports are awesome.
I am sure both University of Kentucky Wildcats and University of Louisville Cardinals would love to have another championship trophy to put in the trophy case.
If you have never had a rich, creamy homemade Kentucky bourbon ball, you don’t know what you are missing. Some people add pecans, others add mint. I’ve even had a chocolate covered cherry with bourbon cream, and yes, it was to die for.
We have some of the best farmland in the U.S. It would be great to see more farm to table like Harvest in Louisville, and less processed foods being made available for any budget. Louisville also recently opened The Table, a "pay what you can" restaurant, which provides healthy food to everyone, despite their income.
One thing about Kentucky is the weather is completely unpredictable. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have consistent weather so we knew it was safe to pack away warm weather or cool weather clothes for each season?
Each one of these things may apply in a few other states, but several are strictly Santa’s Kentucky list. We have a beautiful state filled with a great deal of good hearted people, so there is not much improving to do. What would you have Santa bring out to make Kentucky even better?
