I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
The Bluegrass State is one of the most beautiful places to livein the United States. However, every life eventually comes to an end. How and why are dependent on many factors including where you make your home, as some places are more polluted or hazardous than others. Each and every state in the US experiences death, and many share the same, common causes. However, Kentucky does have one or two was to kick the bucket that are unique.
Here are 11 potential ways you might find yourself in the hereafter if you are from, or reside in Kentucky:
11. Lack of Medical Personel *Rural Counties Only*
Only 7 Kentucky counties had an average physician to citizen ratio. Most of Kentucky’s population resides in one of the 85 rural counties that have limited medical personnel available. Fewer doctors can also mean longer waits. Sometimes it can take months to get an appointment.
Only 5 counties in the Bluegrass have per capita incomes in comparison to the national average. Lower incomes can mean more difficulty affording medical care, immunizations, and medicines. A lack of income makes some residents hesitant to even seek care, thus sometimes lowering their lifespan.
Car accidents are a common occurrence, often involving serious injury or death. In our defense, these accidents are usually caused by someone from another state.
Our weather is both predictable and unpredictable. We can often predict that it will do the opposite of what the weather man says. It can go from 70 and sunshine to 30 and snow in one 24 hour period, and has. The inconsistencies can be troublesome.
This ranks third as the most often documented cause of death. According to Louisville Pulmonary Care, around 90% of "Louisville’s" long term residents have tiny growths in their lungs, unique to this area. However, they are harmless unless other lung diseases are involved.
113 Kentucky Counties are above average when it comes to heat attacks on the national average. We are truly the home of the "Achy Breaky Heart", by Billy Ray.
112 counties rank above average nationally when it comes to this horrible disease. It is the 2nd leading cause of death in the beautiful Bluegrass State.
These "can" be a gateway irritant to Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis, COPD and more… or they can simply be annoying. Allergies may not kill us but in Louisville, there are days death seems a more preferable option than the allergies.
Around 79% of our counties have an above US ratio of elderly people. In the end, we just happen to be a beautiful place both to live, and take an eternal rest.
This is somewhat a morbid topic, so it is good to have a sense of humor. Death is an inevitable part of life so it’s always good to keep perspective. We all have our own ways of honoring our dead. Please feel free to tell us what you think of our list in the comments below!
