There is no shortage of great places to grab food in our state, but you will find some of the best are a little less known. During travels, we have discovered the most memorable food often comes from some of the amazing hidden restaurants in Kentucky, more so than those with renowned.
11. The Homestead on 150 Combs Ferry Road in Winchester
This little gem of a bakery offers homemade baked goods daily with country style food, like breakfast biscuits. It isn’t a full course restaurant, but if you love fresh baked foods, including light, fluffy biscuit breakfast sandwichs, this is a must stop place. The cookies, cakes, breads and pastries are absolutely delicious.
10. Siam Orchid on 511 Fairfield Avenue in Bellevue
If you love authentic Thai food, this is a place you will want to try. The cooks take care with everything they create, making each dish special for the patron. The fresh ingredients and produce used make the flavors stand out. This makes Siam Orchid a favorite stopping place for anyone passing through Bellevue.
9. Sarah’s Corner Café BBQ on 720 Henry Clay Blvd in Lexington
Sarah’s has a good variety of comfort food and melt in your mouth wings, bone in and boneless. Best thing, boneless are only 40 cents a piece, which is a great deal in most cases and the meat just melts in your mouth. They also have pasta, soups, salads, burgers and some delicious desserts.
8. Red River Rockhouse on 4000 Kentucky 11 in Campton

This little restaurant is in the very heart of Red River Gorge and serves up burgers, vegetarian, vegan and breakfast options to hungry patrons. You will find unusual creations, like the barbecue pork burger, which is a burger topped with barbecue pork, and their bacon egg breakfast burger. They have a nice beer selection and recently added wine as well. It is a great place to eat fresh food and wind down after a hard day of rock climbing, hiking and other activities at the Gorge.
7. Miguel’s Pizza on 1890 Natural Bridge Road in Slade
This little restaurant is off the beat and path but it is worth getting side tracked for. If you are in the Natural Bridge area and love pizza, you won’t want to miss stopping by Miguel’s. They use fresh ingredients, handmade dough and perfect pizzas every time. This is the pizza place to visit in Slade.
6. Longnecks Sports Grill on 1009 Town Drive in Wilder
This is the place you can go to hear some good music, get a good drink and dine on some fantastic pub food. The fried fish sandwich and fried shrimp are both local favorites. There are burgers and some other tasty dishes as well, but fried seems to be the specialty.
5. KungFood Chu’s AmerAsia at 5th and Madison in Covington
Kungfood prides itself on delicious fusion cuisine with a variety of spice levels. They have some peppers so hot, employees might even wear masks to stop the tears. Don’t worry though, they have spice levels clearly marked on the menu and the staff can be very helpful. Everything here is tasty, using rich traditional spices in a way you taste the individual flavors.
4. Kathy’s Country Kitchen on 20 Black Creek Road in Clay City

Kathy’s is a perfect spot to stop in for a good southern breakfast or a unique burger. Their pork tenderloin is always tender and the fried green tomato burger is absolutely delicious. Their version of the Hot Brown is also a real treat and for dessert… pumpkin spiced cheesecake.
3. Commonwealth Kitchen and Bar on 108 2nd Street in Henderson

This is a cross between a bar and a restaurant that welcomes both connoisseurs of food, alcohol and wine. It could be referred to as a Gastropub and offers tasty items like unique eccentric egg rolls, roasted cauliflower and Brussels sprouts that will change your opinion of the tiny, overlooked vegetable.
2. Blue Raven Restaurant and Pub on 211 Main Street in Pikeville
Yelpers have deemed this the best restaurant in Eastern Kentucky, but it sits among good company as far as diners go. This unique place serves up some delicious sandwiches, burgers and plate specials like Shepherd’s Pie and Scallops with Mac n Cheese, all cooked up fresh to order. It is a local favorite here but anyone who ever stops in during travels usually returns if they are in the area. The Blue Raven’s food is could be considered addictive… as eating there once is never enough.
1. Home Café and Marketplace on 2440 Nashville Road in Bowling Green
The utilize mostly local farmers and offer a wide variety of delightful sandwiches, desserts, salads, pizzas and more. They have a roast beef, jalapeno and cheddar sandwich that puts Arby’s to shame. Everything is fixed up fresh and made to order. If you make the trip to dine here, you will find a new favorite place to dine out. You cannot beat fresh ingredients and food prepared as you order.
