I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
When Kentuckians hear boardwalk, we might just think of Monopoly, or a beach pier in California. That would be a misconception, as we have some gorgeous scenic boardwalks in Kentucky. The Bluegrass State has a variety of unique walkways designed to provide nature enthusiasts with breathtaking views.
Anyone who appreciates a relaxing environment, with a postcard worthy view will want to check out these 10 scenic boardwalks in Kentucky:
This spot at Lake Barkley provides a gorgeous view to look out over the park. It is located at the end of Mulberry Flat Road, GPS 36.908W, 88.016N, near Honker Lake. The lookout is actually an old abandoned silo. For some reason the area was closed and the road was barricaded in the 1990s, but some still travel to the area at their own risk.

This was once a popular boardwalk to the underground river in Mammoth Cave. The image was taken in 1892, showing how popular the attraction was for the day. Sixteen people fit comfortably on this boardwalk to gaze at the clear water into the depths below.
This beautiful area of woodland trails in Harlan offers a variety of scenic beauty via hike, walk, and zip line. The woodland walk is located on the Evarts Trail, which is off KY Hwy 38, 8 miles to Kelly Street after the Railroad crossing entering town. Signs will lead to the Black Mountain Off Road Adventure area, where you will fin a barrage of nature’s beauty.
This forest is located at 2499 Clermont Road, (Hwy 245.) in Clermont. There are a two different board walks in Bernheim. The Tree Top Walk is the second, which takes nature enthusiasts high above the tree line for a breathtaking view of the forest for miles.
The second board is awalk across the water, which offers a nice spot to stop and appreciate the serenity of the lake, surrounded by woodlands and flowering trees.
Located at 5700 Captain’s Quarters Road in Prospect, this restaurant has a beautiful boardwalk for people to stroll along after a meal, or before to work up an appetite. The sounds of the Ohio River, along with the ducks swimming by, create the perfect ambiance. If you are not in the mood for food, just grab a drink and enjoy the view.
The Waterfront Park is located at 129 River Road in Louisville and stretches a good distance across the riverfront. You will find not only a beautiful view with plenty of spots to relax along the boardwalk, but also a huge playground, splash area. The Big Four Pedestrian Bridge, which stretches to Indiana, and the historic Belle of Louisville are also conveniently located here.
Located at 15101 Cub Run Highway in Cub Run, Hart Country, this unique cave was discovered in 1950. It was closed for 55 years and reopened in 2006 with gorgeous wooden walkways that allow a breathtaking view of the cave and formations.
If you love history and hanging our riverside, the Paducah Riverwalk at the end of Water Street in the historic district of Paducah is a great place to visit. It offers a beautiful view of the river on a tree lined strip with benches to sit at relax at your leisure.
Kentucky Lake is part of the Land Between the Lakes, and a gorgeous part of Kentucky’s most "watery" community. It is located at 570 Moors Road in Gilbertsville and has several spots to enjoy waterside walks along the beautiful lake. There are also lakeside accommodations, as once you get there, you may not want to leave for a day or three.
