This surface mine has become a beautiful area for fishing, camping, and spending a quiet day out in the beautiful Kansas scenery. It makes for a unique place to camp out that’s much less busy than state parks. As long as you don’t mind a rougher area, this place is perfect for you.
Welcome to Mined Land Wildlife Area, 14,500 acres of reclaimed land that is no longer a surface mine, having been transformed into a wild and beautiful area.
We talk a lot about enjoying our Kansas skies, but we also can't pass up a day out at the water. For that reason, this quiet area is perfect for all of our needs.
13,000 acres of land make up most of the area, with only 2,000 acres being area that wasn't mined during the time. Native grasses, wildflowers in all colors, and a good bit of mushrooms all grow here pretty freely. We think it's just beautiful here.
This beautiful camping area has a way to reserve your spot, too! Reserve America has cabins and camping spots available on their website to scout here at the wildlife area.
