Last week United Van Lines, a nationwide company specializing in moving services, released their 2015 National Movers Study showing which states were moved to and from the most over the last year. According to the study, Kansas was the sixth most moved from state, coming in ahead of New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Connecticut, and Ohio. As you probably already know, I happen to think that Kansas is one of the best states in the nation, and here is why:
1. Kansans are smart.
2. So smart, in fact, that we've produced world-changing botanists...
George Washington Carver, the famous botanical scientist who discovered more than 300 products made from the peanut, graduated from high school in Minneapolis in 1885.
3. ...politicians...
Susan Madora Salter of Argonia was elected the first woman mayor in the United States in 1887.
4. ...actors...
The "Modern Family" star was born and raised in Kansas City, and graduated from Kansas State University.
5. ...and record setters.
Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, was born in Atchison.
6. Kansas isn't only the "Air Capital of the World"...
7. ...but the wheat capital as well.
Kansas produces enough wheat each year to bake 36 billion loaves of bread (enough to feed more than 6 billion people for about two weeks).
8. We know how to eat...
KC BBQ... OMG!!!
9. ...like, really know how to eat.
Thank you, German ancestors!
10. Not only are our college teams awesome...
11. ...our professional teams are, too!
**Yes, the Royals play on the Missouri side, but the fan base is Kansas.**
12. Only in Kansas will you find quirky gems around every corner.
The ever-weird, ever-popular Truckhenge is located near Topeka.
13. Thanks to Kansas, the world has helium...
Helium was discovered in 1905 at the University of Kansas and is one of the two sources of helium in the U.S.
14. ...brain freezes...
The ICEE was invented in 1958 by a Dairy Queen owner in Coffeyville.
15. ...and stuffed crust pizza.
Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita in 1958.
16. Finally, Kansas is the heartland of America.
...and nowhere else will you find such kind, hard-working people!
