You know all there is to know about Overland Park, Lawrence, and Wichita. Heck, you may even call one of these lovely areas your home. However, there are many more beautiful cities that make up the Sunflower State, including these 10 up-and-coming ones that multiple sources endorse for a variety of reasons:
1. Mission
Livability made it their "mission" to name this Johnson County town of 9,500 one of their best places to live, noting its small town feel, outdoor opportunities, and the fact that the area has been named one of the safest in the country.
2. Mission Hills
Mission isn't the only Johnson County town to make our list... in fact,
AreaVibes gets a good vibe from Mission Hills, giving the town of 3,500 an A+ rating in crime, education, employment, and housing...

Don't worry; eastern Kansas doesn't have all of the up-and-coming towns. In fact,
HomeSnacks named Scott City as one of their "10 Most Kicka** Places to Live in Kansas," citing the quality of education, low crime rate, and home affordability. (The population of Scott City is nearly 4,000.)
6. Hugoton
HomeSnacks also thinks this town of 3,900 is pretty kicka**, noting "Hugoton is in the same boat as Scott City. Both are tiny, western Kansas cities with low crime and solid schools. Folks don’t earn huge salaries, but the cost of living adjustment makes it one of the most affordable places to live."
7. Newton
Are you looking for a small(er) town feel with a close proximity to the city? Then this town of 20,000 may be the perfect fit!
Niche ranked Newton as their #9 "Best Town to Live in Kansas" because of its ease of commute, weather, and job opportunities.
8. Pittsburg
Approaching retirement age?
Movoto recommends cheching out Pittsburg (population: 20,000), stating in part, "If you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous than shopping, Pittsburg is also a great place to head outdoors, with some of the best weather in the state."
9. Lansing
Marching into #9 on our list is this Leavenworth County town of 12,000, which
Niche rates as an overall B+ for its things to do, community, housing, and ease of commute.
10. Leawood
Last but certainly not least on our list of up-and-coming Kansas towns is Leawood; the city of 32,000 that
HomeSnacks named as their #1 "Most Kicka** Place to Live in Kansas." Why Leawood? The unemployment rate is low, median household income high, and the crime rate is the 4th lowest in the state.
