Here in the Sunflower State, we may not be as known for our pizzas as New York or Chicago, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t great pizzas in Kansas. The Kansas City area in particular has some phenomenal pizza. The fact that Kansas is so spread out can make it difficult to plan road trips that will take you through large portions of the state, but we’ve still done our best to gather up some of the best pizza restaurants in Kansas for you. This is the ultimate pizza pilgrimage, and you’ll get to taste six of the yummiest pies in the state. Check it out:
1889 Pizza Napoletana advertises itself as having "Kansas City's best pizza." This is a bold claim indeed, as there are quite a few delicious pizza restaurants around KC. The restaurant's unique name comes from the year that pizza was supposedly invented in Italy.
As the name suggests, 1889 Pizza Napoletana bakes pizza in the traditional Neapolitan fashion, using a wood-fired oven. The temperature is over 1,000 degrees, which gives the crust a distinctive char. Learn more at the restaurant's website.

Third Coast Pizza, 7820 Quivira Rd, Lenexa, KS 66216, USA
Third Coast Pizza serves up authentic deep-dish Chicago-style pizza in Kansas. The owner is from Chicago and the restaurant serves a varied menu that also includes Chicago-style hot dogs.
Don't like Chicago-style? No problem, we've got all kinds of pizzas in Kansas! AJ's NY Pizzeria serves, you guessed it, New York-style pizza, and aims to make the best New York pizza available outside of New York.
This road trip will take you to the Topeka location, but they have a Manhattan branch as well. Visit the restaurant's website for a menu of both locations.
5. Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza - Wichita College Hill, 4817 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67218
Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza - Wichita College Hill, 4817 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67218, USA
Il Vicino is a small chain that's been serving artisanal wood-fired pizzas since 1992. The first restaurant was opened in New Mexico, and it's proven quite popular in Kansas, with two locations now in Wichita.
Il Vicino has been expanding its menu, and you can now also get salads, paninis, pastas, and calzones at the restaurant. View the full menu on Il Vicino's website.
Lomato's has been a popular spot since it opened in 1992. Go with a traditional pizza or pick up something more unusual, like a cauliflower crust or a Reuben pizza. Check out the menu on their website.
We would have loved to include places from the more remote areas of Kansas, but unfortunately, that would make the road trip run far too long! Share your favorite pizza restaurants in Kansas in the comments.
