Pretend it’s the days of the Santa Fe Trail and that you and your family have been traveling tirelessly in search of new land. Tonight, you stop to rest in the Kansas town of Council Grove, which is one of the last stops heading southwest on the trail. You dine inside a gorgeous 1861 limestone home as the guests of Mr. William Riley Terwilliger, a local man of many trades who has worked numerous jobs including stock man and owner of a livery stable. He and his wife go on to serve you incredible homemade foods like Schnitzel with coleslaw and a slice of perfect strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert. Both the food and hospitality are truly unforgettable and are something you will never forget.

Welcome to the historic Trail Days Cafe & Museum, which serves up history with a side of outstanding American Indian, Old World, and Early American cuisine. The beautiful museum complex contains not only the 1861 Rawlinson/Terwilliger home (which served as a house and gas station before being completely restored and turned into a restaurant and museum in 1994), but a 1902 schoolhouse and 1858 log home as well. Trust us; one visit to the Trail Days is never enough… you will be craving both the food and heritage every time you visit the Council Grove area.
