There are plenty of places for summer day trips in Kansas – we’ve got more than 82,000 square miles at our disposal to explore! When I’m traveling during the hottest months of the year, I love to be near a body of water. Even if you don’t plan on actually hopping in for a swim, just being near a lake or river can make you feel a few degrees cooler, and we’re lucky enough to have lots of great lakes in Kansas that are perfect for a few hours out in nature on a hot day. One unassuming city out in western Kansas has a population of just under 850 but is ideally placed for a day of fun in the sun. Jetmore, Kansas is home to both Horsethief Reservoir and Jetmore City Lake, giving you multiple options for time out on (or in) the water.
