What was the size of your hometown? If you answered less than 10,000, there’s a pretty good chance that you went to a small high school and wanted nothing more than to graduate and move to a town that was big enough to have a Target. (That’s how it was for my friends and I, anyway.) If you had a graduating class of <100, you may know these 14 things to be true:
1. Dating kids from nearby schools was completely normal...
The distance between Ellington and Hoisington is irrelevant when you're in LOVE.
2. ...though things could get a little awkward during football season.
If you're relationship survived your school's rivalries, it could survive anything!
3. You had to make a special trip to Salina or Wichita to buy your back-to-school clothes.
Salina trip = Buffalo Wild Wings stop.
4. The only reason any out-of-towners knew your school is because of your sports team(s).
"Oh, you go to Wakefield High School? They're supposed to have a GREAT basketball team!"
5. Field trips to a bigger town were a pretty big deal…
Hays, Pittsburg, wherever... you're in the big city now!
6. …as were out-of-town sporting events.
If you were lucky enough, the town you were visiting might have even had an Olive Garden.
7. One of the first things your parents taught you about driving was to always wave to the car coming toward you.
...because more often than not, you knew who it was (and if you didn't wave, you'd be hearing about it later from your parents).
8. You were completely unphased by seeing somebody ride their horse to school.
It was probably just one of the FFA kids.
9. You know what FFA actually stands for.
...because you were in it and rocked those National Blue and Corn Gold jackets!
10. You graduated with the same people that you went to kindergarten with.
Sometimes, this was a good thing; other times, not so much (especially when it came to Karen).
11. Your first day of school at KU was the most shocking day of your life.
"I. don't. know. any. of. you. people!! I miss KAREN!"
12. You had a graduating class of *double digits*.
Mine was 40, FYI.
13. Instead of naming the town you were from, you referenced the closest, most well known city.
"I'm from Herington... Forget it, I'm from Abilene!"
14. You’re proud of where you came from, and can’t help but smile whenever you think of your hometown.
