The Underground Saloon is a bit of a local secret, available to those with the password and hidden in Ellinwood’s underground tunnel system. If you have the password and spare time on a weekend, why not sip some giggle water
Welcome to the historic Wolf Hotel in Ellinwood, Kansas. It's a beautiful spot for dinner and a room to stay in for the night, but we're here for what's underground.
Ellinwood is known for having underground tunnel systems used up until the 1930s-40s. Many were part of an underground city full of brothels, bars, gambling, barbershops, and more. The tunnels lasted until the present time and part of it opens under the Wolf Hotel.
The hotel was built in 1894, with underground tunnel rooms included. Those rooms underneath the hotel were many things over the years, including Joe's Snack Counter, a sample room, a library, a gym, and more.
The Wolf Hotel has turned this underground room into a secret saloon, with a password and everything. The password changes nightly or weekly, and it allows you to get into the bar.
During normal operation, the Underground Saloon is open from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the weekends. During the week, enjoy the restaurant or bed and breakfast upstairs. It's a real treat!
