Do You Remember The Kansas Oddity, Truckhenge?

If you’ve been around Kansas a few times, odds are you’ve seen a few odd things here and there. Whether that’s the whole town of Lucas or something smaller, taking photos and enjoying how strange Kansas can be is one thing we love doing. Do you remember a Topeka oddity named Truckhenge? It is one of those locations you’ll be taking in slowly and remembering for years to come.

What you may see first is a lot of concrete, glass, and old parts laying around, but in actuality, you've arrived at the vision of an artist named Ron Lessman.

Though it may look a little odd, we promise that Ron is all too eager to show people his art and explain why it started with trucks.

For those of us at home, the story of Truckhenge starts when Shawnee County started telling Lessman to clean up his yard junk. They told him to "pick up his trucks" and that's exactly what he decided to do.

After "picking up" his trucks and painting them with all sorts of messages and colors, we've heard that Shawnee County still isn't too pleased, but at least he did what he was told.

It has since evolved into much more, sporting boats, buses, beer bottle cities, and over 20 tons of concrete.

Make sure that on your visit you ask questions, take great photos, and enjoy your time here.

You can visit the art park from 8 to 8 every day of the week, but it's encouraged to call ahead just to make sure you can get a guided tour, and because this is still the Lessmans' home. If you're interested, they also hvae a fish pond and a clean rubble/brush dump.
