This abandoned schoolhouse in Kansas was once a place of learning and play. It’s easy to imagine all the lessons and friendships that must have unfolded here.

The school opened its doors to students for the first time in January of 1911.
The twelve-room schoolhouse catered to elementary school children until 1920, when a kindergarten was added to the school.

However, by 1939 the school was considered too small for the area's growing population.
Children were moved from this school to a larger, more modern building.
The schoolhouse became a center for higher education and college classes, receiving a remodel to help accommodate its new students.
In 1939, the old-fashioned elementary school had about 149 students.
When WWII veterans began returning from overseas, the school helped the soldiers readjust to their new lives as civilians.
The school was finally abandoned in 1991 after operating as a Christian academy for a number of years.
You can still see remnants of religious lessons on the chalkboards.
The possessions of the former students litter the hallways and classrooms.
This massive pile of toothbrushes suggests a devotion to oral hygiene.
Many of the students who once sat in these seats have likely gone on to accomplish a great many interesting things.
