If you ask us, there’s no time better than Christmas in Kansas. All over the state, you’ll find magical celebrations of the season. Whether you’re looking for big city festivities or wholesome small town events, the Sunflower State has got it all. One of our favorite places to enjoy the holiday season is Russell. This little town has a population of around 4,500, and it feels like a step back in time, particularly during the winter months. There’s all kinds of old-fashioned events going on that could even bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the Grinch himself!
Each year, downtown Russell puts on a Christmas parade filled with lights, music, and holiday cheer. It's always a blast for the whole family!
Russsell is in the central portion of the state, which focuses heavily on agriculture. It's the largest city in Russell County, but even so, it's still got a quaint down-home charm to it that makes it a wonderful place to visit.
The weekend after the parade brings Plaid on the Plains, a celebration of the small locally-owned businesses that line the streets of downtown Russell.
Weihnachtsfest is a family-friendly event featuring opportunities to support local business, ride in carriages, get photos with Santa, and enjoy a screening of a Christmas movie.
Russell is one of the best small towns in Kansas - its focus on community and culture makes it feel so charmingly old-fashioned. It's especially magical at Christmastime!
