Have you ever traveled the route 66 that comes through the corner of Kansas? This old general store has been working hard since 1925, even before Route 66 was the official cross-country traveling craze. Come see what history and hard work have built in the southeast corner of our beautiful state.
Welcome to the historic Old Riverton Store, an old general store that's truly stood the test of time here in the southeast corner of Kansas.
Though the original building was destroyed in 1923, the current one was built and still retains the pressed metal ceiling, though it has lost the gasoline pumps out front.
What looks like windows out front are actually doors, which can open up into a seating area perfect for enjoying the Kansas weather while we snack on a fantastic sandwich.
Now, some people think sandwiches are overrated, but we disagree. There's something to be said about a fantastic sandwich made from the heart with good quality ingredients. We don't care if it's square!
Sandwiches are made to order with your choice of cheese, and they're happy to make them for you. They also sell flowers, souvenirs from Route 66, and gifts for those you left at home on your travels.
They're open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every other day of the week. Stop by sometime!
We featured Nelson’s Store today thanks to a nomination from our readers! We don’t have much of Route 66 in Kansas, but for those of you who love to travel anyways, please share your favorite small spots with us and we’ll pick the good ones out to show the world.
