The average commute time in America has steadily grown over the last decade or so. We spend a lot of time in our cars just getting to work: and that’s not even counting trips for pleasure or errand-running! With all that time spent in your car, don’t you want to plan out your trip so that you can enjoy some of the beautiful scenery in the Sunflower State? These are seven of the most scenic drives in Kansas that will make your trip just as great as your destination.
The Flint Hills National Scenic Byway runs for nearly 50 miles through east-central Kansas. The road stretches from Council Grove to Cassoday and offers incredible views of the prairies, tall grasses, and ranches in the area. It's one of 12 scenic byways in Kansas.
2. Glacial Hills Scenic Byway

The Glacial Hills Scenic Byway runs through some of the most historic areas in Kansas. The northeastern part of the state was among the first to be settled by pioneers, and you'll see plenty of streams and valleys that were formed by glaciers. This is one of our favorite drives in Kansas!

3. Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway

The Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway goes through some of the most unique scenery in Kansas. The Gypsum Hills area is filled with hills, mesas, and valleys that disprove the old stereotype that Kansas is flat!
The Post Rock Scenic Byway is shorter than many of the roads on this list, spanning only about 20 miles. It will take you right through the beautiful Smoky Hills. You'll see lots of historic stone posts, including some that have beautiful carvings on them.
The Prairie Trail Scenic Byway is another road that was once frequently traveled by settlers and Native Americans. The road will take you past some beautiful parks and plenty of historic small towns.
The Smoky Valley Scenic Byway stretches about 60 miles through western Kansas. There are some absolutely stunning places along this route, and it makes for one of the best road trips in Kansas.
The Wetlands and Wildlife Trail connects Cheyenne Bottoms to the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. This road is absolutely perfect for nature lovers: you'll see such a wide array of plant and animal species! The highway is about 77 miles and will take you through several cute small towns. This is a great day trip for showing you the best of the Sunflower State.
