What is now the historic town's ("Where Slavery Began to Die") community building was once the United Brethren Church, which was built in 1906 and abandoned in the 1920s after the dismantlement of the radical church.

Situated inside the Cawker City United Methodist Church is the state's oldest church organ: an incredible Henry Pilcher's Sons masterpiece built in 1886 in Louisville, Kentucky. (Be sure to stop by for one of the church services, as this work of art is still in use!)

Unfortunately, we were unable to find out much about this small but beautiful church, aside from the info on its Facebook page stating that: "St. Anthony's Catholic Church is located in Strong City, Kansas. Sunday mass time is 8:30 am. The Adoration Chapel is open from 8 pm Sun. to 6 am Wed."

One of the few remaining buildings in the ghost town of Dunlap is that of the Baptist Church, which at one time served the town's African American residents who had settled in the area following the Civil War.

As per photographer Pat Henson, "Memorial Chapel, was built by prison labor in 1878 of stone quarried on post. The round window behind the chapel's front altar was intentionally installed slightly askew by an inmate who was angry at his work boss. This chapel has brass cannon imbedded in the walls at the sides of the church, and photos of many of the officers involved in the early history of the fort, including some of the Custer family."
