Have you ever seen the badlands of Kansas? This state park is finally opening up, thanks to a lot of hard work and donations from Kansans all over. Now we get to finally see it in person! It’s opening real soon, and we couldn’t be more excited.
We finally welcome you to Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park, officially opening up this month.
For the grand opening, gates open at 9 a.m., the trails open at 11 a.m., and everything closes at sundown. Everyone will be excited and it's bound to be packed.
There will be 7 guided tours through the pathways which are all packed full of eager visitors, but other guided tours provided by KDWPT can be arranged by appointment after the opening celebration day.
However, anyone who visits is welcome to hike the two designated permanent trails at their own pace, which are a quarter mile and 1.5 miles in length. There's all sorts of hawks, amphibians, reptiles, and plenty of insects throughout the area, as well as fossils of swimming and flying reptiles from 85 million years past.
We've been watching the birds-eye view of things, and waiting months and months before this moment arrived. The only fees are a vehicle permit of $5 daily, or an annual Kansas State Parks vehicle pass. After this grand opening, it'll be open all year round from sunup to sundown.
This beautiful overhead video by The Wichita Eagle really shows off just how gorgeous this badlands area can be.
For more information about the park, check out their Nature Conservancy website.
If you still haven’t seen Monument Rocks, you definitely should. It’s like a smaller version of Little Jerusalem you can tour for free, as long as you respect the area
