Kansas is known for its sunflowers and open prairie, but did you know that it is also famous for its spinach? Dating back to the early 1900s, spinach has grown particularly well in Kansas soil and is a vital part of its history. In fact, the city of Lenexa, located on the eastern side of the Sunflower State, is known as the Spinach Capital of the World. To celebrate this important piece of history, this gorgeous Kansas city hosts the biggest spinach festival around.
Welcome to the annual Lenexa Spinach Festival! This is a one-day event that will take place Saturday, September 11, 2021, and you will not want to miss it.
This festival began in 1982 by the Lenexa Historical Society. It was originally created to promote local artists and their creations but over time, the society involved spinach and the theme stuck. Today, thousands of individuals come to Lenexa to celebrate.
There are a long list of activities at this one-day event so you’ll want to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss a thing. Give yourself plenty of time to browse the many arts, crafts, and food vendors at this festival in Kansas.
Sit back and enjoy the live music and entertainment that are scheduled throughout the day. You’ll never find a boring moment at this spinach festival in Kansas.
Adults and children alike will enjoy a goat meet-and-greet at the festival. You can say hello to the goats who help to clear out the unwanted plants along the Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park stream corridor.
Bring the entire family along but don’t be surprised when your children will not want to leave. There are a long list of activities for children such as paddle boats, face painting, and fishing.
Of course, you must stay and take a bite of the world’s largest spinach salad. There are also spinach cooking demonstrations and spinach recipe contests throughout the day as well.
