The largest butterfly house in Kansas is great for all ages, because butterflies are always nature’s little wonder. Road trip time!
Out at Wichita Botanica Gardens, you'll find a beautiful butterfly house that's perfect for warm weather visitors of any age. Have you ever wanted to see hundreds of butterflies fluttering around you in a garden? Here's the best place to do so.
During the spring, the flowers bloom, the waterfall bubbles, and the park comes to life in a sea of green. However, one section is dedicated to housing colorful lepidoptera and keeping them safe.
Inside this safely enclosed area, butterflies fly by and land on anything in their way. That could be you, with a butterfly on your hand! There's new butterflies here every two weeks during warm months, and they are most active when it's above 75 degrees outside.
Though the butterfly house has been here since 1998, Botanica fixes up the butterfly house every few years to accommodate more guests and flowers for the butterflies to feed on.
They flourish in both the spring and summer, but it's nice to visit this butterfly house whenever the weather's nice. As long as there's some in season, butterflies are a great way to enjoy nature at any age.
In the late summer, they hold a butterfly releasing event where you can pay to let your own butterfly go, safely tucked into folded paper until you open it up.
