There are over 120,000 tulips at this celebration, between the three gardens.

Ted Ensley Gardens at 3650 SE 37th Street plants around 60,000 bulbs. At the Ward-Meade Botanical Garden at 124 NW Filmore Street, you'll find 40,000 more blooms. Finally, 24,500 more tulips will be located at Doran Rock Garden at 601 SW Gage Boulevard.

Tulip Time began in a small garden, owned by a man named Jerold Binkley, a member of the Topeka Beautification Association.

For over 20 years, he shared his visions of beauty in the form of gardening with visitors, and it slowly grew into much more. Now, Tulip Time attracts people from all over the nation who want to photograph the process and celebration of these beautiful flowers framed by the gardens they live in.
For a special treat, you can also enjoy Tulips at Twilight usually around the second week in April.

Enjoy an evening candlelit walk between the tulips at the Ward-Meade Botanical Garden. Enjoy live music, food vendors, and historic tours by lantern light. You won't find anything like it elsewhere!

Aside from the many natural areas, state parks, and wildlife centers, there are a few festivals and events where flowers steal the show. Here are a few of those events where you can enjoy flowers in Kansas:

  • Kansas Maze Sunflower Festival, Buhler, KS: A fall celebration with pumpkin patches and corn mazes is a tradition for many of us. But this maze is a little bit different. This epic sunflower maze is truly delightful with these large flowering blossoms pointing toward the sun. This festival in August has been going on each year since 1999 and includes plenty of fun and games for the entire family.
  • Kansas Lavender road trip: Not one location, but five delightful lavender farms to explore! This epic lavender road trip will take you to Fort Scott, Lawrence, Bennington, Kanopolis, and Burrton for some of the most vibrant lavender fields in the state. The final stop in Burrton is Gertie's Lavender Farm, which has its annual lavender festival in mid-June.
  • Wamego Tulip Festival, Wamego, KS: Another tulip festival to check out each spring is usually held toward the end of April. The city of Wamego gets its flower on with thousands of vibrant blooms and over 150 vendors showing off their tulips-themed wares. Head to Wamego City Park to enjoy this fun April art and craft fair - the star of the show is the tulip of course.
