Are you ready for more road trip ideas in Kansas? These underrated places in Kansas are so little-known that many Kansans haven’t ever heard of them before. How did I hear of them, you ask? Well, that’s just my secret to keep. Let’s check out what Kansas has been hiding behind the scenes!
1.Moon Marble Company - 600 E Front St., Bonner Springs, KS
For anyone who has never played marbles, I encourage you to try it sometime. At Moon Marble Company, you can watch a live demo of how they create marbles, or just shop for retro toys and leave with a piece of your childhood.
2. Museum of Odd - 1012 New York St., Lawrence, KS
This very odd museum in Lawrence is mostly a mystery, overflowing with an array of sock monkeys and other knick-knacks. I wonder how odd this museum really gets.
3. Greyhound Hall of Fame - 407 S Buckeye Ave., Abilene, KS
Many Kansans aren't aware that we have a Greyhound Hall of Fame right here in Kansas, though to be fair, I can't remember ever seeing any greyhound races here either.
4. Boyer Museum of Animated Carvings - 1205 M St., Belleville, KS
Inside this small museum in Belleville, you can find a number of moving carvings performing all sorts of tasks with exaggerated body parts and crazy expressions.
5. Wheat Jesus - Colby, KS
This billboard aptly named "wheat Jesus" by locals isn't very well explained, but it's humorous to see if you aren't expecting it.
6. Book-shaped library - 519 N Kansas Ave., Liberal, KS
Though obviously residents of Liberal will know what their library looks like, many Kansans only know about the KC library that looks like a shelf of books. Little did they know we have a book building too!
7. The Smithalo - 7 Kansas 9, Beloit, KS
The Smithalo (on top of the hill) is a huge rock and concrete structure weighing about 60 tons. It's over 15 feet tall, and about 23 feet long, so there's plenty of room for the whole family if you want a photo.
8. Miniature Mount Rushmore - 126 Fairview, Lucas, KS
Artist Florence Deeble created this rock garden full of all kinds of sculptures, including a miniature version of the famous Mount Rushmore. Who knew!
9. "Free-to-ride Carousel - Wilmore, KS
During months with nicer weather, this carousel in Wilmore is ran for free by the owners. Just ask nicely, and you'll soon be spinning around just like you did during your childhood.
If you’re looking to fill your Kansas bucket list with more and more places to visit, why not add these underrated museums all over Kansas as well?
