Odds are, most of our Kansas towns don’t have river walks or even rivers that run through them. This river walk in Kansas might be something you’ve seen before, but it’s worth a visit for anyone who hasn’t been through here before. It’s a magical time — if you don’t mind sticking around for the grand finale.
Welcome to Wichita's scenic Riverside area, where you'll find the river walk full of people enjoying the scenery and waiting for the grand finale here. It's a great place for a short walk around the riverside area.
The area we're headed to is known as the Keeper of the Plains, and it was built to honor the United States Bicentennial. However, don't forget to enjoy one of those amazing Kansas sunsets with a great view of downtown Wichita to frame it.
Even before you head over the bridge, you'll see the stunning Keeper of the Plains, a 44-foot tall steel sculpture by Kiowa-Comanche artist Blackbear Bosin. It was originally put up in the 70s but was placed on a 30-foot pedestal when they redid the area.
During the spring and summer, the bonfires light every night at 9 p.m. for 15 minutes. During fall and winter, they light at 7 p.m. for the same amount of time.
Altogether, this is a great place to visit when you're in town or even a great end to a romantic night out. Imagine enjoying a wonderful meal and then visiting this amazing area for an amazing end to your night.
