There are so many places to go in Kansas it might seem like it’ll take you forever to get through your list, but here are 7 different quick road trips in Kansas packed with all sorts of things to do in a day or two. Enjoy!
1. Sternberg Museum of Natural History and Monument Rocks (Hays and Gove County)
The Sternberg Museum in Hays is a must-see for any fossil lover. Not only do they have dinosaurs, but they also feature fossils found around Kansas, including the famous fishes above. Then, head over to Monument Rocks to see our favorite Niobrara Chalk formation and check out the area where the fishes were found.

2. Museum of World Treasures and the Keeper of the Plains (Wichita)
This museum in Wichita is full of all sorts of treasures, from dinosaurs to real Egyptian mummies. Then, take your adventures to the riverside area, and walk around the Keeper of the Plains and learn a little about Native culture and history. Plus, the bonfires around the Keeper are lit nightly for an amazing view!
The Oz Museum is full of pieces and displays from The Wizard of Oz books, movie, and musical, leading you through the world from a behind-the-scenes type view. Of course, some of us would rather skip the Oz hype, but there's a lot to learn here that many of us don't know! Of course, a stop at Toto's Tacoz is a short walk away, and a delicious way to end your day in Wamego.
4. Boot Hill, Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame, and the Famous Gunfighters Wax Museum (Dodge City)
Boot Hill is Kansas' very own slice of the west. There's so much to explore here, especially when they have events going on. Of course, you can't stop by boot hill without a visit to the Teachers Hall of Fame and the wax gunfighters, especially since they're both in the same building! I will warn you though, the gunfighters are a bit creepy in wax form.
Sometimes the best trip doesn't have any destinations, but instead an incredible journey. It's no easy feat to drive on these byways, but the scenery here is absolutely divine at any time of year. Just pick one or two and go explore!
Fort Scott NHS is a restored military fort turned museum that explores the history of our state's settlers, Bleeding Kansas and the Civil War. Learn about all these amazing events that brought us to where we are now, and then head over to the Unsung Heroes center to walk through the lives of people who changed history and made a positive change.
Lindsborg, the sweet Swedish town we all know and love, has plenty of small businesses and shops to peruse while you explore the town and take photos of the Dala horses they're so famous for. While you're there, however, you should definitely stop by Coronado Heights and explore this miniature castle marking the spot where an explorer gave up his search for the seven cities of gold.
Have you ever visited any of these places? Tell us about your experience in the comments below! Also, let us know if there’s anywhere you think we should visit, we’re always looking for new places to travel. Afterwards, make sure you check out one more place you can visit on a day off, this time with ruins.
