One of my personal favorite trails, this one looks like it belongs in a magazine, not in prairie land. However, it's a fantastic view in spring or fall, and not too hot in the summer, either.

These red rock formations make for a beautiful drive through Barber county. This destination is surrounded by small towns with great food, so make sure you also bring your appetite for after your retreat.

Known as one of the only places in Kansas where you can see mostly wild bison and elk, this is a must for animal lovers. Book a visit here a couple days in advance though, to get the best tour you can.

Another, more powerful waterfall sits in Riley, just waiting for someone to come watch for a while. The soothing sounds of water pouring will help wipe your mind clean of the noisy town and highway you've left behind.

In this area of Kansas, there was a shortage of trees, so they couldn't waste any. Instead, they used slabs of rock as fence posts. Now, there's a whole scenic byway that highlights this part of history.
