The story starts off in the mid-1800's when Atchison was much smaller than today. The story goes like this: the owner at the time was a doctor who had an affair with the housemaid, resulting in her giving birth to a little girl named Sallie. Sallie became ill at a young age and needed emergency treatment to remove her appendix. However, her father feared others would learn of her origins, and he refused to treat her. Because of that, she died, and the doctor moved away. To this day, it's said that Sallie and her mother are the spirits haunting this old home. Her mother still grieves for her death, and becomes violent, especially towards men. Sallie herself is more playful and focuses on children. It's suspected that the bodies of both are buried somewhere near the house, but no one has started digging yet to find them.

In the mid-1990s, the then-owners Tony and Debra Pickman lived in the home only a short while before noticing strange occurrences. Tony himself was attacked, and voices were heard through the house with no one to claim them. Candles appeared to have burnt fingerprints, furniture was misplaced, and objects flew through the air. Tony and Debra had a newborn son and feared he'd be harmed by the events happening in the house. However, Tony himself is the main focus of the "attacks" and has suffered the brunt of the paranormal activity here.
After this scary story, you should head down to Barber County for another chilling tale.
