In the plains of Kansas sits a beautiful church hiding in a small town that not many people know of. The sights to be had within this small town are definitely worth the travel time for most Kansans. Plus, why not check out the charming town while you’re here?
As for the church, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar is historic as well as beautiful. It was built in 1912 in a Romanesque Revival style, which lends a timeless beauty to the whole building. However, due to hard times and limited funding, the towers were added the year after, and it was plastered in 1917 right before the first Mass. It was also recently restored, to bring back some of the beauty it had lost over the years. The roof, installed in 1947, is copper, and about the same thickness as a penny. Wow! The church stands as the overseer of the scenic Main street, and serves as both the heart of the community and its centerpiece.
