What’s great about Kansas, is that you can drive anywhere within the state in less than a day, even if it’s just for a couple restaurants. You could even make an entire weekend trip based around a town with a few restaurants you’d like to visit at least once. Well, this list of little food towns is the perfect excuse to get out there and do just that. Take a look!
1. Iola
Iola is a picturesque town with plenty to do, but the restaurants are what we're here for. Here you'll find great pizza at Sam & Louie's, BBQ at Dudley's Done Right, and amazing comfort food at B & B Country Cafe. Don't forget the sandwiches at either Bolling Meat Market or the burgers at King's Sandwich Shop!
2. Scott City
Scott City is close to the amazing Monument Rocks, but a day out there and you'll be starving. Grab some great American grub at Broiler bar, Mexican at El Dos De Oros, and steaks at Tate's or Grill House.
3. Baxter Springs
Baxter Springs is right next to the Oklahoma border, but don't let that keep you away. Grab some great Chinese at Rice House or mouthwatering BBQ at the Baxter Springs Smokehouse. You also can't go wrong with sandwiches at Angels on the Route, or steaks at Van's. Give it a try!
4. Coffeyville
Though Coffeyville's a little bigger than some of these towns, it's still bursting with great small-town flavors. Lanning's Downtown Grill and Phelp's Hog Heaven are great places for meat lovers, but if you like Mexican food, try out Cielito Lindo. Ross's BBQ and Tavern on the Plaza are great hits with travelers, as well.
5. Colby
You can't go through Colby without eating at B-Hive, but then you have to choose whether to also stop at City Limits Grill, Twisters, or Welcome Home Cafe. It's a hard choice!
6. Meade
Meade might not have much, but their Dalton Gang houses aren't all to see here. Feast both your eyes and your stomachs at Chuck Wagon Restaurant's country cooking, or try out Bob's Drive-In and Bart's Tavern for other eats. They're all solid choices!
7. Caldwell
The three places to be in Caldwell are the Red Barn Family Restaurant, Last Chance Bar & Grill, and The Shack. All three serve great food of all sorts, so be sure to sample them all next time you need a day or two out of the house.
8. Pittsburg
Of course, I couldn't mention foodie towns without including Pittsburg. There's an ongoing feud between Chicken Mary's and Chicken Annie's for the best chicken, so you'll have to make sure and try both. Besides the local fowl, check out Napoli's for Italian, El Charro for Tex-Mex, and both Bob's Grill and Harry's Cafe for whatever suits your fancy. If you're in the mood for barbecue, check out Smokey Racks before leaving town. There's so many more options here, so don't be afraid to shop around!
9. Sublette
Sublette is full of comfort food like Cattleman's Cafe, Golden Prairie, and Station 53. Find other eats at Mama Mo's Pizza and Walk In Waddle Out that'll also fill you up just fine.
