Kansas is a historic state full of bloodshed and amazing scenery, but we have more on our list of historic towns than just Dodge City. What’s inside this historic small town in Kansas is more than meets the eye. You’ll have to dig a little deeper to find out!
Welcome to Ellinwood, where you can explore a town rife with history, above and below ground.
History means antiques, which they have plenty of here at The Ellinwood Emporium.
Dine at the Lone Wolf or Annie Mae's where you're treated like a local and served like family. Of course, the whole town feels like home if you've ever lived in a town this size before. It's just so cozy!
If you're creeped out by this hole in the ground, you're not the only one. It looks a bit spooky, but we assure you it's just a set of stairs leading to treasure.
The treasure is alcohol, of course. It wasn't so easy to get back then in Kansas!
Underneath the hotel you'll find an underground saloon, hidden from the public's sight, and usually only open for tours and rare nights when they serve drinks.
Just look at those classic chairs and a bar that's probably served hundreds.
It's a prohibition-style speakeasy, kept guarded by their doorman who expects to hear the secret password (posted weekly on Facebook) before you can enter. Can you believe you can sit where cowboys from the 1800s used to hang their hats?
