Fall is quickly approaching, and it won’t be too long before leaves start to change color and make Kansas even more beautiful. Everything from the trees, to the fields, to the festivals and foods we enjoy are part of the Kansas celebration of the harvest and fall in general. However, we always look forward to when leaves are their most colorful, and some of us even take time off to travel and enjoy fall foliage to the fullest. When it comes to fall foliage, I feel like most of the western side of Kansas is stuck in a perpetual state of yellow leaves, until they suddenly turn brown overnight.

Though, that might be due to poor timing. The eastern side also seems to move quickly, but long after the western side has already lost its color. Luckily, with help from this prediction, we'll be able to find out just when the leaves look their best. If the prediction is correct, anyways.

According to this prediction, western Kansas will turn before the rest of the state, starting at the Colorado border and moving towards the southeast corner.

Around October 20th, the eastern third of Kansas is at its peak color, for about a week.

Then, it moves to central Kansas, which is supposed to peak between October 29th and November 5th.

Then, around November 12th, while most of the state is browning or already covered in dead leaves, the southeast corner of Kansas is in it's brightest form.

We expect many reds and oranges across the state, and it's hopefully going to be a beautiful season for Kansas. However, please keep in mind that no prediction is 100& accurate, and is only a rough estimate of when leaves will change, using weather patterns from years past.
