Is it just me, or are hole-in-the-wall restaurants the best places to dine? How can a place that looks so simple and unassuming on the outside be so “OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE” on the inside? Whatever the case, Kansas is home to several humble restaurants that may not look like much on the outside, but are oh so delicious! Here are 10 of these places (in no particular order)…
1.) JD's Country Style Chicken (Hays)
Homemade fried chicken is always in style (and I have a tendency of eating JD's chicken and noodles like they're going out of style)!
2.) Legends Pub & Grill (Pratt)
Huge portions of delicious food is never a bad thing.
3.) Johnny's Tavern (Lawrence)
Any place that celebrates Taco Tuesday has my business for life! (Side Note: How is Taco Tuesday not recognized on calendars?)
4.) The Spot & Dining Car (Herington)
Come for the beer; stay for the hand battered wings and fried pickles.
5.) Stacy's Restaurant (Junction City)
Homemade hot cakes, sandwiches, and apple pie -- just like mom used to make!
6.) Chicken House (Olpe)
If eating homemade fried chicken (and strips) in every town I visit is wrong, I don't want to be right.
7.) Russell's Restaurant (Salina)
Russell's is a breakfast lover's dream come true with its gigantic portions, delicious coffee, and semi-truck tire sized homemade cinnamon rolls (pictured).
8.) Kristy's Family Restaurant (Concordia)
As tempting as it is, don't fill up on their hot, homemade bread -- you'll want to save room for your perfect entree and dessert!
9.) Spudley's Family Restaurant (Paola)
If you take anything away from today's post, let it be that family owned and operated restaurants are #1 (and that you can never go wrong with the Spudley's flat bread).
10.) MeeMaw's Country Kitchen (Pleasanton)
For those of us who miss our grandmother's cooking, there's MeeMaw and her amazing grub -- all made with love, of course!
Which of these places on our list is your favorite? Tell me about it (and other must-try places) in the comments!
