It’s time for another adventure to another small town in our spotlight. Small towns are everywhere in Kansas, but have you heard of a small town that’s saturated with one heritage? This Czech town might not be full of people, but it’s full of charm and character. If you haven’t visited yet, you’re in for a real treat.
Welcome to the beautiful town of Wilson, Kansas where you'll find more than just a little Czech heritage around these parts.
There's something so beautiful about a historic town that has so few people in it, because you get to spend time meeting a good portion of the community during your visit. There's around 750 residents in this small town, but the charm doesn't decrease with the population at all.
Wilson is known as the Czech capital of Kansas, where you can visit during one of their heritage events or just when you feel like exploring a town that feels like it's in another country.
Despite being full of Czech heritage and design, Wilson is still very much a part of Kansas, from the friendly people to the beautiful skies and farmland. Well, that and beautiful monuments like the World's Largest Hand Painted Czech Egg, sitting 22 feet tall.
Grandma's Soda Shop is one place that always feels like home when you visit. There's just something about homemade soda and floats that makes you feel right at home. Things just taste better when grandma makes them, I guess!
Made From Scratch is a restaurant in town that you should also stop by on your visit, because like the name, you'll find that everything is delicious and made from the heart. This town really makes you feel like home, from every meal to every hello.
Another cool stop in town is the Midland Railroad Hotel, a historic landmark hiding out in such a small town that is a great place to stay or eat during your trip here. It was once one of the most popular hotels in the Midwest, but since it reopened in 2003, it has been a great place to tour and learn about the history of this town and the people who made it great.
No matter your draw to this beautiful Czech town, you'll find that one way or another, it'll find its way into your heart. It's one of many additions to our Kansas bucket lists that you'll want to keep coming back to.
You’ll find Wilson right in the middle of Kansas, between Salina and Hays, just off of I-70.
If you really love small towns like we do, you’ll enjoy this ghost town that’s got plenty to offer , even without a big population.
