Are you hunting for another great restaurant stop on your bucket list through Kansas? This small town restaurant is one of our state’s most loved, and should definitely be visited at least once by each of us. If you’re judging by the dollar bills on the wall, people definitely put their money where their mouth is. This BBQ joint makes ribs you’ll fall in love with at first bite.
Welcome to Guy & Mae's, a tasty restaurant in small town Kansas that's been pulling in customers from all over for their amazing barbecue. Open since 1973, the original owners Guy and Mae Kesner originally made their dream of the perfect barbecue come true.
Guy perfected his technique, and Mae perfected her sauce, creating something that worked together oh so perfectly. When they first started selling to friends, they took off like a rocket. Soon, there was a line out the door of people who wanted to get their hands on a rack of these ribs. Today, their children and grandchildren have taken on the business, making those recipes that Guy & Mae worked so hard to perfect.
The dollar bills you see in every nook and cranny of the walls and ceiling began when a dollar bill airplane got lodged in the ceiling, and it caught on just like the ribs. Soon, satisfied customers were sticking bills with their names and places of origin everywhere, making a visual example of just how much people love the food.
Here, soda is served in a can with a cup of ice on the side, and they don't do credit cards, even after years in business. You'll get small town service and fall-off-the-bone ribs, which is what put this restaurant on the map as one of Kansas' 8 Wonders of Cuisine.
