Since Kansas has so much to do this summer, it seems like a big problem is finding which attractions are the best for your family. Naturally, the most fun at the least cost is ideal. Taking a car ride to the lake can’t compare to these epic adventures waiting here in Kansas for you to explore them! Adventures like these will stay in your family’s memories forever, no doubt. Come take a look!
1. The Kansas Cosmosphere - 1100 N Plum St, Hutchinson, KS
Shoot for the stars, and land among the ships hung in this museum, where you can feel the wonder of a child discovering their first bottle rocket. At any rate, the movies and star tours shown here are both relaxing as well as educational, which is ideal for taking the whole family for a visit.
2. Renee Kelly's Harvest - 12401 Johnson Dr, Shawnee Mission, KS
A castle, you say? No doubt it's your dream to dine in a refurbished castle, but this one specifically hosts a delectable restaurant within. Of course, you can always rent the space for your next big event, instead! Bon appétit!
3. The Meteorite Museum - K St, Haviland, KS
This place is a must-see, and probably hasn't changed much since my last epic adventure here years ago. Meteors are chunks of other planets and space material, and as such, they're the closest things we non-astronauts have to actually touching the sky.
4. The Haunted Atchison Tour (Atchison)
Whether you're into being scared or watching your friends get creeped out at Victorian style houses, this trolley tour is for you! Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend trying to ruin others' fun by telling them ghosts aren't real.
5. The Sternberg Museum - 3000 Sternberg Dr, Hays, KS
Home of dinosaurs and other ancient creatures' fossils, this museum is about both living and dead species all over the world. As a matter of fact, it's home to the famous "fish in a fish" fossil, but you'll have to see it for yourself!
6. The Oz Museum - 511 Lincoln Ave, Wamego, KS
Though we all joke about hating the movie (and some are serious, for sure,) sometimes you just have to embrace a stereotype or two. Another great idea for the kids, before they grow to form any strong opinions on it. However, you'll probably be happy as long as you don't hear that specific phrase.
7. Monument Rocks - Gove county
Gorgeous in the sun, and gorgeous under moonlight, this rock formation is made of Niobrara chalk, deposited here when Kansas was covered in ocean. This is a great place to find tiny fossils, and who knows, maybe you'll find something big nearby?
8. Strataca - 3650 E Ave G, Hutchinson, KS
Here at the underground salt museum (and mine), you can find old mining technology, salt blocks, and even a small train to ride! It's an amazing adventure deep underground, as long as you aren't claustrophobic.
9. Climbing Mt. Sunflower - Wallace county
Not actually a tough climb, the area around this "mountain" is pretty flat. However, it's a good spot to hike to, being the highest natural point in the state of Kansas at 4,039 feet above our lowest point. So you might not need boots after all!
