Summer is fully started, and that means that Kansans everywhere are lamenting the heat. However, you don’t have to faint under the sun if you’re checking out a haunted cemetery. If you’re feeling like a good spook, you might want to head down to one of these cemeteries for a good look at how creepy Kansas can be at night. Spooky!
7. Alma cemetery (Alma)
Alma cemetery is relatively tame, with reports of floating orbs and figures seen in photographs. In addition to that, there's also the legend of the Devil's Chair, and any who sit on it may disappear, pulled down a well by the farmer's spirit within. Maybe don't sit on any strange wells.
6. Rochester cemetery (Topeka)
However tame this place seems during the day, stories of the "Blue Albino Woman" who is rumored to walk the grounds at dusk and after dark to scare visitors, might give you the creeps. In fact, her legend states that she was so alienated by her community, that she was taken and buried alive, causing her to wreak havoc on those who visit the cemetery after hours. I think you might have more trouble with local police than her, though.
5. Elmwood cemetery (Coffeyville)
Many graves over a century old reside here, including the notorious Dalton Gang and those that died fighting them. It's a common dare between college kids to visit the cemetery after dark to encounter a ghost.
4. Schroyer cemetery (Blue Rapids)
Before you adventure here, make sure you have permission from the caretakers before you walk around this area. However, once you're allowed to visit, this cemetery alone on a hill is a great place for nighttime spooks and strange photos. It's called the Schroyer cemetery due to the amount of those buried here in that family. Along with them, the spirit of a child with deformities and covered in hair is said to walk these grounds some nights. I think i'll stay home for this one!
3. Ft. Leavenworth cemetery (Leavenworth)
None of the ghost stories at this respected cemetery belong to any soldiers, despite what you might expect.
2. "Child's play" cemetery (Le Roy)
Lorenz Schlichter Memorial Cemetery. It's said that if you visit this cemetery, make sure your car is fully washed and dried before you do. Because of this, you'll know exactly where your car was touched by the children who haunt this cemetery. After a thud on your window and around the bottom of your car, you'll find hand prints when you get home and check your vehicle. How creepy!
1. Stull cemetery (Stull)
Commonly rumored to house a gateway to Hell itself, there's multiple legends surrounding Stull and its cemetery, including one that describes the hidden stairwell on the grounds. The other is local legend, which states that any object thrown into the abandoned church will never make a sound. However, you'll risk a night's stay in the local jail if you're caught trespassing, so you're better off watching from afar.
