These 11 Outdoorsy Towns In Kansas Will Bring Out The Nature Lover In You
Getting out into nature is one of my favorite reasons to travel. Kansans everywhere wait for weather conditions to be favorable and then head out to their favorite areas to hike, camp, fish, boat, and just about anything else one can do outdoors. Of course, it’s hard to find a small town that doesn’t love the outdoors, but these 11 outdoorsy towns are close to hot spots for natural beauty and activities.

Marion is a small quiet town that's next to a reservoir that happens to be my favorite place to fish for dinner. Catfish here are always good, if you've got the patience and the right bait. Nothing's better that fresh fish fry after a day of fishing.

El Dorado is near a reservoir and state park full of hiking trails that make getting close to nature quite easy. what else could you want?

Strong City is right on Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, and there's nothing more magical than a trip through rolling grasses and old schoolhouses.

Melvern is a town near a beautiful lake and Eisenhower state park that together make it the perfect town for your nature needs. Fish, hike, or just camp out for a while.

Parry Lake is a well-known place for warm weather activities, and you wouldn't want to miss out. Plus, what better reason to travel than a day out at the lake.

Glen Elder is my favorite place to bring a camper and relax for a while. There's something special about camping at a lake, but it's easier to stay longer when you've got a mini-house with you as well.

I'm no stranger to south central Kansas, but Medicine Lodge and the Gyp Hills are absolutely stunning any time of year. It's a town full of friendly people and scenery you can't find anywhere else in Kansas.

Elk City is well known, but still an amazing town near the Elk River that is full of greenery and cool rock formations.

Baxter Springs sits near Lowell Reservoir and Spring River, two beautiful areas to explore near the Oklahoma and Missouri borders.

Stockton is near the beautiful Webster State Park, which makes it the perfect place to start a weekend adventure. Of course, you can do this in the summer when it's busy, or try and time it before the park is too popular.
If you don’t have the time to go camping or fishing right now, these parks and gardens in Kansas are full of flowers for a quick visit.
