11 Inexpensive Road Trip Destinations In Kansas That Won’t Break The Bank

Here in Kansas, there’s plenty of space to travel, and plenty of places to enjoy with your family. However, some of those attractions are just so hard on your wallet. These inexpensive attractions all over Kansas are great for any family vacation, and won’t hurt your wallet when you get there.
1. Coronado Heights
Right outside the beautiful town of Lindsborg sits the site where a Spanish explorer
didn't find his city of gold. However, this little castle is a great stop for families of all ages. Plus, it's a great hike up the hill to get there.

2. Deanna Rose Children's Farm - 13800 Switzer Rd in Overland Park, KS
This farm is a great place to bring the kids for an entire day of fun. In addition to the petting zoo animals, there's also an old schoolhouse and recreations of how life was in the 1900s.

3. Wilson, KS
The city of Wilson is a great cultural hubbub of our Czech history, and the egg is a big symbol of that. In fact, Wilson is the home of the World's Largest Hand-Painted Czech Egg at 22 feet long and 15 feet wide. Can you imagine the omelet that would create?

4. Lucas, KS
The grassroots arts center of America, this little town is a hair over the crazy line sometimes. The arts have taken over this town, and in a good way. You'll have to just see it for yourself, but don't forget to visit the big toilet!

5. The Center of the Contiguous U.S. - Lebanon, KS
Though this attraction doesn't have crazy color, rides, or a theme, it's a fun little part of Kansas that connects us to the rest of our country. In addition, there's plenty of places in Lebanon to explore while you're there. Why not stop by sometime?

6. Rock City - Minneapolis, KS
These rocks aren't just some slightly-larger-than-average boulders, they range in size and get up to 20 feet in diameter. You can climb them and hop around, but be careful that you don't get stuck between a rock and a hard place.

7. Nelsons Old Riverton Store - 7109 SE Hwy 66 Riverton, KS
This little store on Route 66 has been serving homemade chili alongside tourist souvenirs. This little stop has been here for decades, and there's always a great reason to travel our little chunk of Route 66. Besides the chili, that is.

8. Monument Rocks/The Chalk Pyramids - Gove county
These rock formations (and others) are a long-gone part of our history when we were an ocean instead of farmland. These rocks get up to 70 feet tall, and they're perfect for a family picnic.

9. Starlite Drive-In - 3900 South Hydraulic, Wichita, KS
Starlite Drive-in is an affordable option to take the family to see a movie (or three). Plus, you get to enjoy the sunset if you get there at the right time. What better way to end an evening with family?

10. Strataca - 3650 East Avenue G Hutchinson, KS
This underground museum in Hutch is part salt mine, and part Hollywood movie prop storage. If that isn't an interesting combination, then I'd love to know what you've seen!
