The Flint Hills Nature Trail currently includes about 117 miles of trail, full of wildflowers, rock outcroppings, and miles of prairie. The trail itself features all sorts of path types, bridges, and features.

It's covered in wildflowers when the seasons are right, and the wildlife is hidden in all sorts of places. Much of the trail is part of the Missouri-Pacific railroad, but the tracks have long been abandoned since the 80s, making a perfect trail through the hills.

This particular bridge on the trail between Ottawa and Osawatomie is worth a few good pictures. They're still working on this trail, but before too long, they'll have it reaching all the way to the Colorado border. The goal is to have one long trail reaching from one side of the state to the other. I wonder how long that trip would take!

Our beautiful Flint Hills are one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie areas, and every chance we have to see it, we do. The trail passes through all sorts of communities, such as Rantoul, Pomona, Vassar, Osage City, Miller, Admire, Allen, Bushong, and Council Grove. It's a fantastic way to learn the state, if you ask me!
