In Kansas you’ll find many types of people from many walks of life. However, you’ll also find that these people are all the same in one way: we care the most. How many of these 14 types have you met?
1. The Newbie
Wherever you live, Kansas is home to many a new face. It's crazy just how many move from the busy coasts to smaller towns here in the midwest. Maybe they're just changing scenery, or maybe they got a new job. Either way, I bet they're surprised with just how wonderful Kansas can be!
2. The Lifer
These types always know local family names, and oftentimes ask you who your parents were when they meet you. They know a bunch of small towns, and love to make new friends wherever they go.
3. The Farmer
There may be plenty of types of Kansas farmers, but mostly they all share similar traits. They are always in tune with the weather, and you can never seem to reach them during harvest. In the city, they stick out like you know they have a house out of town on their farmland. They're also some of the nicest people you'll meet!
4. The "Beverly Hills" type
These people are usually nowhere near farmland, or never leave the city, except to go to other cities, of course! (ahem, Johnson County) To be fair, though, you don't need to get your hands dirty to be a good person.
5. The Biker
Though some might think they're scary, there's nowhere safer in Kansas than a bar full of bikers. These men and women are some of the most caring in the country, despite their bad rep. Start a conversation with a drink, and you've made a new friend with these fellas.
6. The Suit
True, some businesspeople are stuffy and always busy, but in Kansas, there are numerous business owners that truly care for everyone. They're looking for lifetime customers, not one-time spenders. Only in Kansas will you find people who shop at one grocery store no matter where they move to!
7. The Artist
You'll find this type perusing one of our numerous art museums, or out in the country drawings their newest inspiration. If they're at home, you'll find evidence of their talent in doodles, their own displays, and more.
8. The College Student
A classic Kansas resident is the College Student. With many universities and junior colleges, there's plenty of students that disappear during the fall, only to reappear during the summer, wandering around, glad to be rid of finals. Not to be confused with hipsters, these people usually dress for ultimate comfort instead of ironic style.
9. The Jayhawks Fan
In the houses of these crazy fans, there will be no talk of that "other team" and no wearing of their colors, either. I know plenty of these types and they're not ones to mess with. Rock Chalk is like a motto for some people here in Kansas!
10. The Chiefs Fan
Even louder than KU fans, the Chiefs Fan can be found on gamedays screaming and yelling as if they were there in person. Bowl games are almost a national holiday, and the Chiefs have the loudest stadium in America for a reason!
11. The Outdoorsy Type
As soon as it warms up and the lake looks nice again, the Outdoorsy Type will be trying to drag you and everyone else camping with them. Camping might be a fun trip every once in a while, but who wants to go all month long? Are you nuts? I have a commitment to my mattress to keep up.
12. The Hipster
The Hipster is usually fond of photography, and easily found at college hang-outs, Starbucks, and small coffee shops. They idolize ironic behavior and take fashion to a strange yet predictable level.
13. The Foodie
That person on your Facebook who always shares new recipes and pictures of their latest meal? That's a Foodie. Foodies are always looking for the next great taste, the next best restaurant, and the closest replica recipe. Somehow, I feel these Foodies grew up with grandmothers who spoiled them with the best homemade meals.
14. The Classic Kansan
The Classic Kansan is kindhearted, and always there to lend a hand for someone in need. They donate to our food banks, they shovel their neighbors' driveways, and they lend you that cake pan you can't seem to buy yourself. Need a scarf or a cup of sugar? Ask a Kansan.
