I have a confession to make: I’m not from Kansas… but hear me out! Though I was born and raised in a neighboring state, I grew up visiting my mom’s family in central Kansas and grew to love it from a young age. It wasn’t until I came here for college, however, and began to really explore the state and meet the people that I gained an all-new appreciation for it and why I’ll always come home to Kansas for the holidays:
1. First and foremost, home is where your family is.
(Or—in my case—where my in-laws and extended family are!)
2. Kansas is the heartland of America.
Both geologically speaking and in terms of good people.
3. Big and small towns alike pull out all the stops with parades...
4. ...lights...
5. ...and other special events.
6. Even local businesses get in on the Christmas fun!

7. Only in Kansas will you find the Christmas City of the High Plains.
8. Kansas looks absolutely perfect under a blanket of white snow.
9. The Sunflower State is home to a number of different cultures (and their holiday traditions), including Swedish...

10. ...German...

11. ...and Filipino.
One of the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City's biggest fundraisers of the year is their fun and festive Christmas Party.
12. The food back home is pretty stinking delicious.
13. Finally, out of all the places I have been, I have never met anyone friendlier...
14. ...or more hospitable than a Kansan.
Holidays are best spent around kind people!
