There’s almost unlimited ghost towns around Kansas, but there’s one in particular that comes to mind when we think about fall exploration. In fact, this ghost town is so unique that you’ll want to come back time and time again. Are you ready for today’s adventure to our favorite Kansas ghost town?
Welcome to the beautiful and mostly empty Elk Falls, Kansas. Though it might have under 100 people living here, you won't find any shortage of character. Elk Falls loves to call themselves the "Largest Living Ghost Town In America" which might confuse some people. They're definitely a ghost town but you'll hear from the locals that they're "not quite dead yet." There's some life left in here, if you only look.
Most of the draw to this little spot in Kansas involves the iron bridge and waterfall that make it a scenic pinpoint on our maps. However, they also have another reason people flock here in the fall.
This odd town only gets weirder, as soon as you find out about their number 2 attraction, the annual outhouse decorating competition. Yes, this castle holds an outhouse inside, most likely decorated with other themed decor and potty puns. It's a poo-pular time of year to visit, usually on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
This iron bridge is a beautiful piece of history that might not support cars anymore but is still a sight to be seen by anyone on foot. Of course, the best views overlook the falls in fall.
This beautiful waterfall isn't tall or flashy, but rushing waters are beautiful no matter how much of them you see. Plus, the quiet town means it's easy to avoid people during your visit if you're looking for a quiet getaway.
