When it comes to architecture in the 20th century, one name truly stands above the rest. Even if you’re not an avid fan of the history of buildings, it’s pretty likely you’re familiar with Frank Lloyd Wright. The Wisconsin-born architect worked for over 70 years, designing more than 1,000 buildings. Many of these structures still stand today, including a few in Kansas. One of these is the majestic Henry J. Allen House in Wichita. This beautiful home is open throughout the year for tours, but in the winter season, it’s host to one of the best Christmas home tours in Kansas. Christmas in Kansas is always a magical time, and checking out this beautiful home will really put you into the holiday spirit!
The Allen House was built in 1918 for former Kansas Governor Henry Justin Allen and his family. It was one of the last homes that Frank Lloyd Wright built in his famed Prairie House style, and also has Japanese influences.
The home is quite fascinating and it's worth taking a guided tour at any time during the year, but it's especially magical when decked out for the holidays.
There are a variety of different tours available, including ones that are more in-depth than a standard tour. You can also enjoy a moonlit tour for a special nighttime viewing of the Allen House.
