Kansas may not be home to many chef superstars, but the chefs that live here certainly don’t need fancy titles to make delicious food. Living in the city may give you a wide range of options, but sometimes you just want what Grandma used to make. There may be quite a few small towns in Kansas, but this restaurant is more than worthy of a day trip. Plus, there’s plenty of other sightseeing to do in the area. Council Grove, KS is our destination today!
The trip here won't be boring, unless you don't like rolling hills and open skies. But who doesn't? Nothing shouts "Kansas!" like small towns and great scenery.
Anyone looking to reminisce on the "Good ol' days" will feel right at home here in Council Grove. There's so much history to see, and everything's a short walk away. Plus, there's plenty of information on the local Kaw tribe and its role in Kansas history.

The Hays House is a restaurant opened in 1857 by the great grandson of David Boone himself. Since then, it has been considered the oldest operating restaurant west of the Mississippi River. It's as old as the town itself! The charming interior has been kept as historically accurate as possible, with a very warm, western theme. They have food for everyone, and a full bar to boot. A drink doesn't sound so bad, does it?
Whether you're a history buff, or you're just a lover of comfort food, the Hays House is the place to be at any time of day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served here, and afterwards, you can take a walk downtown. Maybe you'll want to come back for seconds? I sure would.
