I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Since 1929, Wichita has been known as the air capital of the world, a monicker given by the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce due to the city’s large number of aviation companies that called it home. In 1935, the city’s first air terminal was dedicated and, for a time, was one of the busiest municipal airports in the country. Now an aviation museum, both employees and guests have reported mysterious phenomena and ghostly sightings, none of which can be explained.
The first municipal airport of Wichita was built in the mid-1930s. The Kansas Aviation Museum, or KAM, now inhabits the building and is dedicated to aviation history and restored vintage aircraft.
This art deco building has had many reports of ghosts and unexplained activity happening throughout. It's no wonder why this has become a hotbed for paranormal investigators to visit.
People have reported doors slamming, disembodied voices, music from another era playing, an apparition of a man sporting clothes from the 1940s, the sounds of children playing, cold spots, and many other strange occurrences that defy explanation.
It is also believed that a yellow crop duster plane on the property is haunted by a pilot who had perished in a crash. There are several ghosts who have made this museum their after-life home and refuse to leave.
Aside from the residents of the spirit realm, this aviation museum is a fascinating place to visit. View restored vintage planes, like a B-47 and Republic F-84 out on the ramp. Indoors has exhibits on the history of aviation and the importance of Wichita to the industry.
The museum embraces the supernatural activity and its ghostly residents, even offering after-hours ghost tours throughout the year. Some of these tours have spooky names like Terminal of Terror, Fright Flight, and Ghosts of the KAM.
Whether or not you experience any unexplained phenomena during one of these events, you are sure to have a frighteningly good time as you hear the stories of ghostly encounters.
Have you been to the Kansas Aviation Museum? If so, did you experience anything out of the ordinary? Please tell us all about it in the comments!
