However, one of the best ways to see a large portion of the Sunflower State is on the Flint Hills Nature Trail. This 117-mile trail is the longest trail in Kansas and takes you through the gorgeous Flint Hills, multiple towns, and stunning landscapes.
The Flint Hills Nature Trail gives you a remarkable view of the beautiful Sunflower State. This trail travels across east-central Kansas and you’ll pass through many towns including Ottawa, Miller, and Council Grove. You can hop on and off the trail as you please.
The Flint Hill Nature Trail is not only the longest trail in Kansas, but it is also the seventh-longest rail trail in the United States. The trail is built along an old railroad corridor and the general route of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail.
Take the time to notice the prairie plants along this trail. The Flint Hills are actually one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystems in the entire world.
The Flint Hills Nature Trail is open to any non-motorized vehicles and horses. Walk, ride a bike, run, or gallop on this adventure. The trail is open from sunrise to sunset year-round and it is free to the public.
